Assignment #2

due Mar. 31 (week 9)

This assignment consists of work in progress for your semester-long project.   Since this assignment comes at the 2/3 point of the semester, you should have completed approximately two-thirds of your total project.

Specifically, you should bring in to class and hand in to me the following at a minimum:

Visual composition.  You should have worked out all of the compositional issues by this stage – what the project looks like, elements that are being used, color palette, etc.  Include visual materials to support your progress on these compositional issues.  These can be in the form of digital files on a CD or DVD, and/or in the form of printouts.

Three-dimensional scale installation mockup of your project. Take photographs of at least one site you hope to use for your installation. This could be anywhere at Pratt, but you must secure permission to use that site. Using these photographs, produce a three-dimensional scale model or mockup of your artwork as it will appear in situ. This scale model can be either a physical model or can be produced by using 3D software such as Maya. Show a human figure, plus a visual of your project. Scale both accurately relative to each other. Based on this scale test, calculate the expected dimensions of your project and include these in your mockup. If your scale mockup is in the form of a digital file, put it on your disk along with your other files.

Technical testing.  Crucial!!! You should have tested all of the foreseable technical issues for the project by this stage, including any issues related to exhibition/installation. Testing must include at least some full-size tests, both of the production of the artwork and of the installation of the artwork. Include materials to support your work on these technical issues.  This could be a written summary, sheets of data, sketches.  Make sure your materials are organized enough that they will be comprehensible to me.

Revised Project Description. (approximately 200 words) Speak of the underlying concepts or issues of your project.  Also place your work in the context of any artistic traditions you feel you are working within or reacting to.  Your Statement can be derived from the statement you wrote earlier in the project, but you should revise your statement to reflect any changes you have made to the project or your thinking.  You should also expand your earlier statement to now include the issue of artistic traditions mentioned above. Print your project description on hardcopy.

On the due date, hand in to me all of the above on a disk. Also post to your blog samples of all of the above.
