Prof. Michael O'Rourke DDA-606B, Seminar II
Assignment
External Critiques
Each student is required to have 4-5 external critiques of your thesis plans, research, and ideas.
Non-Pratt Critic:
One of these critiques must come from one of the non-Pratt visiting critics. Visiting artists are invited to come to DDA for guest lectures. After each lecture, the visiting artist meets individually with a small number of graduate students to critique their work. These visiting-artist critiques are arranged through Prof. Mattia Caselegno, who manages the visiting-artist series. Critiques by these visiting artists are spread out over the course of the semester. See the schedule of visiting artists to see which artists are coming, what their work is like, and when they are coming. Let me know if you have an interest in receiving a critique from a particular artist.
Pratt DDA Critics:
At least 3 other critiques will come from DDA faculty during Open Studio week near the middle of the semester. Scheduling of these DDA critiques is managed by the DDA office. A schedule of faculty availability will be posted and you will then sign up for critiques with the DDA faculty during the available time slots.
If you wish to get a critique from someone outside of the Department of Digital Arts you may do so, but you must also do at least 3 critiques with DDA faculty during Open Studio week.
Prior to this week of DDA faculty critiques each of you will have produced your Mid-term Proposal materials. These materials are what you will show to the DDA faculty during this week. For each critique of this external critique week, you should try to show each critic the same material. That is, do not change your materials from one critic to the next; instead keep them the same so you can get feedback from each critic on the same materials.
After each critique (both the DDA critics and the non-Pratt critics) you should make entries in your blog describing:
name of critic
At the conclusion of the critiques, I will review your blogs for these critiques and give you a grade. Your grade will be based on the thoroughness and thoughtfulness of your materials.
