Prof. Michael O'Rourke
DDA 645, Digital Imaging Studio
Due
last session, May 3
The second imaging project of the semester may be of or about anything you wish. You must discuss your ideas with me and the rest of the class and get approval from me on the nature of your project before you begin. The research topic we are focusing on in this second half of the semester is Cognitivism. You should be aware of the issues raised by the Cognitivist approach to art-making as you work on your project, but you do not need to explicitly incoroporate them into your project.
Think also in terms of ouir semester-long emphasis on the physicality of the image as you develop your project This may entail issues of scale, material, mixing of media or techniques, virtuality -- any of issues of physicality.
Your art project may involve whatever media you choose. Whatever medium you choose to work in, however, the primary focus of your project must be still imagery. Note: Epson Enhanced Matte paper is considered a test paper; it is not considered an acceptable final paper/substrate. You will need to test and use a paper, canvas, or other substrate that is appropriate to your project.
All students must do their own printing. You may not pay someone or have a service bureau do your printing for you.
As you work, make entries in your blog -- of your thoughts, sketches, tests. As you progress through the project, also begin to develop in your blog a short artist's statement of what you were attempting in this project.
On the final due date:
* Bring in any physical prints or other physical materials that are part of your project.
* Post to your blog your short Artist Statement and a representative sample of images to show the artwork of your project.
* Also hand in to me a DVD or CD data disk that contains all relevant
imaging files and a PDF of your Statement. Organize all your files on the disk
so that it is easy for me to find them and understand what they are.
