Green River

A swirl of imagery around a calm central image of a river. The peripheral images include a running child, people waiting and looking, an old man with a suitcase, pedestrians moving this way and that, and a section of a speeding taxicab.

The stillness of the central image contrasts with the compositional movement of the surrounding elements. The gazes of the people in these peripheral images direct our own gaze around the central image, into and out of depth. Accompanying the contrast of movement and stillness, there is simultaneously a contrast of young and old, coming and going.
