Bodies
1999
These images deal with sexuality, power, vulnerability, damage, strength, aging, death. Some of these issues may appear unrelated, even contradictory; yet they all may be, and frequently are, present simultaneously - in a situation, in us, in life.
Because of the close cropping of the imagers, the viewer is forced to come up close to these bodies, closer than we would normally with anyone who is not a lover. This creates an intimacy. It also may create a feeling of discomfort, as when a non-intimate puts their face too close to ours in conversation. It may even create a feeling of threat. All of this - the intimacy, the threat, the discomfort, the prurient thrill of seeing what we are not normally permitted to see - is consistent with the feelings and issues I am trying to elicit in these images.
Some of the images in this series are not displayed on this web site because their content is not appropriate for a general audience.
