Michael O'Rourke

This image developed over a long time out of two other compositions, each of which I'd finished a year earlier and incorporated several scanned sketchbook drawings. Originally the new composition was rectangular. It was only on changing it to circular that the composition came together and felt complete.

The feeling is one of a deep space, and then, with the red square, a space within a space. The frame-like structure of the red square emphasizes the interplay between the two-dimensional and the three-dimensional.
