Little Tears
1996
The Little Tears set of prints was derived from a series of paintings entitled The Iridesence of Tears and develop the ideas of that series further. Our tears are like little gems, precious to us. They are also like "bibelots", to use the apt French work -- personal possessions accumulated, remembered, treasured, even though they may be of little significance to others. The prints in this series try to capture that feeling. They are deliberately quite small. They are full of beautiful, swirling color, but at the same time have large areas of muted color. They are intended to be displayed as a group, like photos on a living room wall or knick-knacks on a living room shelf.
The Six Little Tears prints were produced by scanning slides of the large-scale paintings into the computer. The resulting digital files were modified in an image manipulation program (Photoshop), and then digitally printed on archival fine art paper with archival inks.
The images are printed individually, as a set of four, and as a set of six.
