Left: Participants have submmitted text they find emotionally or intellectually significant and have handwritten that text. The texts become examples of and representative of human culture. These texts are projected onto the surface of the final sculpture, appearing as if being written word by word in real time, continuously and silently.

Mountain Sculpture #3, with human figure to indicate scale and simulated background. Paper board, digital audio. Intended size 3m

The final sculpture will include several multimedia components.

The entire sculpture is exhibited outdoors against the backdrop of mountains. Because of its impermanent and fragile materials, it is gradually reclaimed by the winds and rains of the same environment that helped make it beautiful. The paper and board collapse and deteriorate, the multimedia components fail and cease to function. The artwork returns to the raw materials from which it was fabricate

Middle: On a large white columnar form projected video of a appears. The water tumbles down silently for several minutes, then fades out and disappears. Several minutes later, the waterfall reappears and resumes.

Right: An audio speaker is concealed within the form at the base of the column. From this form emanates the sound of trickling water, as from a small stream. The sound is faint and constant. Regardless of the changes in the text and waterfall video components, the sound of trickling water never disappears.
