Polygon Sculptures

mid 1980's

In the mid 1980s I employed high-end computers to design and fabricate several physical sculptures. The work was made possible by a polygon unfolding technique originally developed by Ron Resch at the University of Utah and customized for me by his former student and my officemate, Robert McDermott. Additional software for this work was written by Pat Hanrahan and Jacques Stroweis. With this software I created a series of both paper and aluminum sculptures. The latter were painted, with the color patterns sketched digitally by means of UV-mapping software developed by Robert McDermott.
