Sculpture

1974-1985

My first sculptural work was traditional media -- wood, stone, clay, steel. The first pieces were representational, including a number of commissioned portrait busts. I soon began working more abstractly, though still referencing the human figure.

In the early 1978, I began working with real-time 3D computer hardware and software to make real-time interactive sculptural compositions. These were viewed on a screen, but were defined fully in three dimensions.

In the early 1980's, I began transferring the linear quality of these digital sculptures to my physical scuptures, combining wires and metal elements with the more volumetric masses - clay, stone, etc. This linear quality subsequently became central to all my work, both sculptural and graphic.
