Michael O'Rourke, 1985 - 1992

In 1985 and again in 1991-1992, I did several series of work for the artist, Frank Stella, digitally composing sculptures that were then fabricated by him and incorporated into several series of his sculptures. The 1985 work was for his Cones and Pillars series. The 1991-1992 work was for his Smoke series of sculptures.

An offshoot of the Smoke sculptures was a series of elaborate construction drawings whose graphics Stella used in his paintings and prints for about ten years.

Another offshoot of the same work was a digital animation I produced for him illustrating the process. This animation became part of a video Stella showed at the Pompidou Center in Paris.
